My name is Heather Hawthorne and I am Hub Leader for Lambeth and Southwark.
I am no stranger to Spinnaker as I have been teaching RE in different schools for about 9 years. My background is in Primary teaching where I have spent many years supporting Children who are learning to speak English, covering different classes and coordinating Religious Education. I am also a Licensed Lay Minister in the Church of England and am heavily involved in my Church. Frustratingly, I am unable to run around visiting schools at the moment because while descending Mount Snowdon I slipped and fractured my right ankle, but hopefully that will change soon!
Last year the 5 members of the Lambeth/Southwark Hub visited 18 Primary Schools
between them delivering Assemblies, Collective Worship, RE lessons and leading
clubs. We had some amazing feedback from schools:
“Fantastic content when teaching. Really well explained at the kid’s level. Super resources used with a wide variety of activities,”
“The children have been especially enthusiastic about their learning and have taken a lot from the lessons.”
These are just a sample!
Since last term 2 members of the team, Joanne Gallagher and Lisa Absalom have moved on to new projects and I want to thank them for their hard work. The Lambeth/Southwark team is presently made up of myself, Sally Newman and Ruth Woodcraft. Sally is already visiting lots of schools where she does loads of really practical activities which the schools love. Ruth is doing Collective Worship in Peckham and I am hoping to be back in school after half term. It is such an exciting job and the children and teachers are always so pleased to see us. It’s wonderful seeing their reactions to our teaching, games and stories.
I am really excited to be leading the Lambeth and Southwark Hubs. My vision is to enable lots of children in Lambeth and Southwark schools to benefit from inspiring and relevant Christian assemblies, collective worship and RE lessons. It is also a particularly exciting time as we are launching our new ‘It’s Jesus’ resources. You can see them on our website - www.spinnaker.org.uk/resources.
Please pray for the lovely Lambeth Southwark team, we particularly need to pray for
some new volunteers to assist us in schools. Please pray that the schools continue
to enjoy our work and that teachers and children will learn more about Jesus.
If you would like to find out more about what we are doing and/or experience an
assembly at your church, then please do get in touch as one of us would be happy
to come along and speak at a service or a weekday group.
Please also get in contact if you would like to have a chat about volunteering as we
would love to hear from you: email - [email protected]
Thank you so much for your support and prayers - we cannot do this without you.
