RE lessons

Spinnaker has a number of workers who are very willing to assist with primary school RE lessons. They offer RE lesson plans that conform to the local Agreed RE syllabus or school's scheme of work. The Spinnaker worker will discuss with the school's RE coordinator which is the most suitable year group or class, and the Christian topics to be covered.

Generally the Spinnaker worker will visit a class once a fortnight for a whole term, providing their own resources, and work sheets to be photocopied for class use. They provide the teacher with an outline copy of the course of sessions, which may include ideas for the teacher to use during the alternate weeks.

The classroom teacher is responsible for discipline, syllabus and outcomes and is asked to remain in the classroom at all times during the visit, for the following reasons:

  • The class teacher has overall responsibility for the teaching and learning in the classroom
  • The Spinnaker worker is essentially a local community visitor and may not be a qualified teacher
  • The class teacher can gain useful ideas and materials for follow on work
